Chamber Orchestra is our advanced string Ensemble. Students in this course must audition and are enrolled year-round (three trimesters). For other eligibility requirements, see Audition Information & Requirements below.
The literature performed in this ensemble ranges from traditional orchestral classics to arrangements, and modern compositions. Due to its rigorous nature, students are expected to commit to a minimum of 5 hours of personal practice time per week. While it is not a requirement, students are also encouraged to receive private instruction on their instrument.
Many of our Chamber Orchestra students also play in ensembles throughout the county including MCCSO (Mira Costa College Symphony Orchestra), SDYS (San Diego Youth Symphony), CYO (Civic Youth Orchestra), and RSO (Renaissance Symphony Orchestra).
We perform at various school and community events throughout the year, including the annual Winter, Spring, and Pops Concerts. Leading up to these larger concerts, we may have some after-school rehearsals to prepare for combined performances with other ensembles.
In addition, this ensemble participates at the Civic Youth Orchestra Invitational Festival at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. That performance will be coming up in March of 2025.
Recent highlights for this ensemble include two inaugural concert events during the 24-25 school year: the formation of the Carlsbad Unified String Collective with Carlsbad High School Orchestras and corresponding concert, "Spooky Scary Strings" in October, and the upcoming inaugural "Collage Concert," a student-led and organized chamber music showcase that will be on April 17th.
Private lessons are highly recommended to enhance individual progress and are available from qualified instructors.
